Innovative Learning Opportunities in Healthcare
The Austrian Academy of Physicians was founded by the Austrian Medical Association as a non-profit organization to promote and continuously develop medical education in Austria. The Academy's goal is to keep medical education up to date and to incorporate the latest didactic findings and innovations into the continuing education system.
Between a Lack of Time and Constant Change
In healthcare, continuous education and training is of crucial importance due to the short half-life of medical knowledge. It plays a major role in enabling doctors to practice their profession for the benefit of patients and society.
Despite the obligation for continuous further education in medical professions, specialists are confronted with a lack of time. In its report Health at a Glance, the OECD states that doctors in Austria have an average of five minutes available per patient.
- The short half-life of medical knowledge requires constant updating
- Time constraints make extensive learning formats impractical
- An abundance of content, low motivation and a lack of individual support reduce the output
- Mandatory continuing education vs. the reality of everyday practice
More and More Efficient Learning with Microlearning in chunkx
With chunkx, resident physicians in Austria can learn sustainably and flexibly. The integration into the daily work routine is a real relief – learning tasks can be repeated flexibly from any device.
1. Effective learning with the chunkx microlearning solution
With the microlearning solution from chunkx, doctors can cover a lot of learning content in the shortest possible time. The content is broken down into chunks, allowing them to learn quickly and effectively without feeling overwhelmed by extensive learning materials.
2. Flexible further education in a hectic everyday routine
chunkx adapts to doctors' hectic schedules and is easy to integrate into everyday life. Learning is possible on the phone, in the browser and on the tablet. Doctors are also kept up to date with learning summaries, recommendations on new articles or studies, and updates. This can happen via email follow-ups. If preferred, learners can receive their notifications via MS Teams.
3. Practice-oriented learning and individual knowledge acquisition
Learning in chunkx is personalized, as content is delivered to doctors based on their individual level of knowledge. The adaptive algorithms enable a tailored learning experience. The learning content is supported by practical images of diagnoses. In this way, a deeper understanding can be fostered and acquired knowledge can be integrated directly into daily work.
Learning in self-chosen steps, whenever there is time, while discovering gaps in knowledge immediately – that is real progress and a promising future for learning opportunities.

Innovation in Medical Education
The project illustrates the need for new learning solutions and supportive learning measures in the medical field. In responsible professions, considerable resources are invested in continuing education. Yet the output is often lower than the input, due to various factors including the abundance of learning content, time constraints, low motivation, theoretical content and a lack of individual learning support.
Especially after graduation, continuous education gains enormous importance due to new findings and rapid developments across many areas. The continuing education of doctors is just one example of many, as there are numerous other players in healthcare that need innovative learning solutions for continuing education – for example in nursing, therapy and diagnostics.
chunkx extends far beyond healthcare to support companies on their path to continuous and adaptive learning. This saves resources, embeds content sustainably and gives employees the flexibility to learn from anywhere.
Major Impact in the First Five Months
The first five months already had a major impact: over 150 doctors learned about ENT and dermatology across three extensive channels.
